I Keep Having the Same Dream Over and Over: What Does It Mean?

by Richard Wilkerson, Dream Educator

Question: I keep having this same dream over and over. I'm in my house and trying to dial my friend's telephone number and can't. What does it mean?

Thanks for sharing your dream. We all seem to have trouble with mechanical things working in our dreams and share your frustration. Recurrent dreams can commonly continue for years and can be approached as any other dream. That is: I can look in my dream for parallels between the dream and my thoughts, feelings, behavior and motives. Attention to recurrent dreams has sometimes helped me to move on an issue that I've been struggling with for years.

If it were my dream, I might ask myself the following questions:

  1. What are some of the main unique qualities of the friend I am trying to call (Friendly, Responsible, Wild...)?
  2. Would I like to contact these qualities in myself?
  3. How does my friend bring out these qualities in me?
