Would Something Like Zoloft for Depression or Panic Make Me A Weaker or Stronger Person?

by Richard B. Patterson, Ph.D.

Question: Would something like Zoloft for depression or panic make me a weaker or stronger person?

I don't believe that Zoloft has the power to do either. What the medication may do is correct a physiological imbalance in your body. It won't help you with how you view yourself because of these problems. I think it takes great courage to face depression or panic with or without Zoloft! Perhaps you judge yourself otherwise.

What Zoloft can't give you is a stance that you can take in relationship to depression or panic. As psychiatrist Viktor Frankl points out, while we don't always have a choice about circumstances in our lives, we do have a choice with regards to how we view such circumstances. And therein is where we find true strength.
