Mary H. Guindon, Ph.D.Mary Guindon is a full-time Associate Professor of Counseling Services at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. Among the courses she teaches are psychology of personality, adult development and aging, gender issues, career development, and community agencies. She supervises field experiences for master's level counseling students as well as for practicing professional counselors. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and has more than fifteen years private practice and consultation experience. A Licensed Psychologist and a National Certified Career Counselor, she also maintains a part-time practice in nearby Yardley, PA, where she lives. Mary specializes in adult transitions, career planning, women's issues, relationships, self-esteem, and issues of grief and loss. She is Past President of NJ Mental Health Counselors Association and of NJ Association of Counselor Education and Supervision and a Fellow in the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. Among her professional experiences she has been a consultant to a federal government agency, she has trained counselors at the national level on self-esteem interventions, and her group program for women has been successfully implemented by counselors throughout the country. Mary has published professional articles, a book chapter, made numerous presentations at professional conferences, and provided various workshops in corporate, governmental, hospital, community, and educational settings. In addition, she has been a radio talk show guest. She serves on doctoral committees for Union Institute and has been guest lecturer at Siegen University in Germany. She has conducted several research studies on self-esteem and on women's role perceptions. She is especially interested in women's realties across cultures and is developing a documentary on the global picture for women. Mary has lived in seventeen different places in her life, including three foreign countries. She is the mother of three grown children: a son in the restaurant business, a daughter who is a professional actor/director, and a younger son still in college; and mother-in-law to a musician/librarian. She says nothing she has ever done in life is as time-consuming or rewarding as rearing three kids!
