Dorothy Strauss, Ph.D.

Currently Dr. Dorothy Strauss devotes full time to her private practice and to supervision of psychotherapists and social workers preparing to earn appropriate professional accreditation. She also teaches seminars at conferences conducted for therapists specializing in family relationships and in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions. Previously she had served as Professor of Psychology at Kean State University of New Jersey and then as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Downstate division of the State University of New York where she assisted with the establishment of the Center for Treatment of Sexual Dysfunctions.

After having earned her doctorate at New York University, she decided to apply her knowledge of psychology to a career in psychotherapy, starting by working under supervision at a clinical center. She soon became aware that a significant number of psychological problems presented by clients required attention to a malfunctioning relationship. That led to further training at a clinic connected with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania specializing in that particular area. The round trips required between New York and Philadelphia were compensated for by a rewarding learning experience plus an unexpected impact upon her marriage. Her gynecologist husband, having limited time for non-medical talk, began referring patients to her thus expanding their partnership by adding a new collaboration.

Her professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, The American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, also serving as supervisor for the latter two, and the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. Her biography is included in the Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care, Whose Who in America, and Who's Who of American Women.
