Laura Slap-Shelton

Laura Slap-Shelton, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist who earned her doctoral degree at Hahnemann University Medical School in 1988. She has published on a wide variety of topics including child psychotherapy, psychoanalytic theory and neuroscience, and grief. She is currently working on a children’s book about grief, a grief journal and a book on young widows.

Laura’s interest in grief was stimulated by the tragic loss of her husband when she was 35 years old and the parent of an infant daughter. Her grief journey opened new perspectives on life. Describing grief as a “terrible gift”, she became especially interested in the processes of renewal and the sharing of new found wisdom, compassion and insight as a significant part of healing.

Laura’s and her daughter’s personal journey has taken them from Philadelphia to Kennebunk, Maine where they are beginning their adventure in a blended family. Laura has a clinical neuropsychology practice in Biddeford, Maine. She is launching Grief and Renewal.com, a web site dedicated to supporting others who are transforming their grief into a meaningful legacy for themselves, their families and their communities. She is a grateful contributor to Self Help and Psychology Magazine.
